Domaine Bousquet 'Gaia' Red Blend
The story of Domaine Bouquet begins with 3rd generation French winemaker Jean Bousquet. Searching for new lands to continue his family’s legacy, he arrived in Argentina in 1990. He found the remote and arid terrain of Mendoza’s Gualtallary district, the ideal location in which to nurture organically-grown vines.
Situated at over 4,000 feet above sea level, the vineyards benefit from a cool climate that extends the ripening period, allowing grapes to develop complex character while maintaining all-important acidity. Using sustainable vineyard practices and 100% organic hand-harvested grapes, Jean’s wines radiate polished French decadence while showcasing the distinct characteristics of Gualtallary’s terroir.
Today, the winery continues to make high-end selections of unmatched concentration and sophistication that have caught the attention of critics and wine lovers worldwide.
Named for the Greek Goddess of Earth, ‘Gaia’ is a blend of Organic estate-grown grapes that showcases inviting aromas of black fruit, dark plum, violet, and pepper that lead into refined layers of spiced blue fruit and a strong and polished finish.
“Gaia, a name that has special resonance for the organic community, is a cuvée of Malbec with Syrah and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich, complex and spicy, it has polished, filigree tannins, subtle oak and impressive palate length. 2022-30” – 93 Points, Tim Atkin
“Dark red-ruby. Black fruits, licorice, menthol and violet on the nose, accented by a peppery topnote. Plush, savory and fairly full-bodied; a seriously mouthfilling, silky blend with a smoky, gamey, salty Syrah element and no rough edges whatsoever. Noteworthy flavor intensity and depth here, and also more horizontal than the Cabernet and Malbec Reserva bottlings. Finishes very long, with substantial but thoroughly ripe tannins and lingering notes of licorice, spices and violet. These top wines from Domaine Bousquet share a very subtle and successful use of used oak and offer outstanding value in an Old World style.” – 92 Points, Stephen Tanzer
“A spicy red with dried herbs, blackcurrants and dark plums. Finely crafted on the palate, which is medium-to full-bodied and rolls over layers of blue fruit, laced between bright acidity.” – 91 Points, James Suckling
“A clean full fruit nose opens this blend of Malbec, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. That’s followed by full-volume fruit on the palate and tasty flavors of blackberry and plum. All the way to the finish line, this shows well.” – 90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
