2019 Vina Robles 'The Arborist' Red Blend
Wine Club Selection - May 2022
When founder Hans Nef left Switzerland to travel the United States, he developed a deep appreciation for California wines and an increasing desire to produce his own wines. In 1996, Nef partnered with his longtime friend Hans Michel to establish Vina Robles. The team had one mission: express a unique balance of European heritage and American opportunity. This melding of Old World and New World styles allows winemaker Kevin Willenborg to combine modern technology with traditional methods. His goal is to craft wines that translate the terroir into the bottle and let the fruit shine.
The 2019 vintage is a blend of 45% Syrah, 40% Petit Sirah, 10% Grenache, and 5% Tannat. The wine opens with aromas of dark cherry and plum. Flavors of dark stone fruits are accompanied by hints of cocoa, spice, and fine tobacco. Medium-bodied, with textured tannins that lead into a smooth finish.
“A complex yet easygoing bottling. Dark plum, iodine, charred beef and violet aromas drop into a hearty, rich palate of blackberry jam and smoked meat, with delicate garden herb elements on the finish.” – 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
