Tenuta Talamonti is a sustainable producer that focuses on the terroir of Abruzzo, an ancient wine region known for its Montepulciano grapes; they also produce the iLauri wines. 'Kudos' is a fusion of Montelpulciano and Merlot, so named because the family wanted a bottle name that wasn't Italian since Merlot isn't. A masterful wine only bottled in exceptional vintages, this produces an intensely concentrated and complex wine with supple tannins and layered flavors. It is elegant and powerful with flavors of cherry, plum, black pepper, and anise on the palate, which is earthy and finishes with coffee, vanilla, and spices from 24 months of French oak barrels. We've always enjoyed rating the Talamonti reds on a scale of "drinker" to "thinker," and this is definitely a "thinker."
