Shane 'The Villain' Syrah
Shane Finley studied English at Virginia Military Institute before leaping into the wine industry with full force. In just 5 years from 2001 to 2006, he learned the craft of winemaking at such illustrious names as Copain, Torbreck, Dom. Pierre Gaillard, Paul Hobbs, and Kosta Browne. Then, he broke off and founded Shane Wines. He focuses on minimalist, tiny-production wines that emphasize their grapes and the vineyards from which they came. 'The Villain' is a 120 case microproduction sourced from Monterey's cool-climate Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, which gives this Syrah a Northern Rhone flair. It is peppery and gamey, with flavors of bacon, venison, and sage framing softer, fruitier flavors of blueberry, blackberry, and violets.
