Lagar de Darei Dao Tinto

Surrounded by a nature preserve, Darei is a 3rd generation winery dedicated to producing traditional local styles of wine instead of conforming to international conventions. Dao reds are usually lighter than Douros, offering higher acidity and tannins that mean even unoaked styles like this one boast longer aging potential. This classic Dao blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Jaen (Mencia), and Alfrocheiro is both fruity and earthy, with intriguing savory, funky hints. Aromas of dark fruits and smoke lead into blackberry, cherry, dried plum, and leather on the palate. Aged 15 months in traditional cement vats called lagares, it is light-to-medium-bodied with juicy acidity, good fruit, rustic hints, and a complex, earthy finish.
