Wine Club Selection - November 2021
Hendry started producing their own wines in 1992, but in the many years since they purchased the property (in 1939, to be exact), they’ve always farmed sustainably. The Hendry family vineyards are set up in terroir-specific blocks, which allows them to be choosy in blending their wines.
Hendry’s estate and vineyards are just one mile from Carneros, Napa’s cooler maritime zone; this allows Albarino to maintain its characteristic freshness, while Napa’s general warmth brings out the grape’s floral tones.
This wine exhibits what happens to Albarino in warm, sunnier areas when grown a little further inland, coming across more like a Viognier with its enticing floral aromas. Aromas of stone fruits, tree fruits, and white flowers lead into flavors of peach, green apple, honeysuckle, and beeswax on the palate. Bright acidity and a medium body contribute to a complex texture and a long, almost salty finish.
