Granite Heights 'Evening Serenade'
Granite Heights is a 'nanowinery' outside Warrenton, Virginia. A complete mom-and-pop operation with both winemakers heavily invested in the production process, they grow grapes on just 12 acres of vineyards and do as much of the work as they can.
Their 2012 Evening Serenade is a Right Bank Bordeaux-style blend of 71% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot that was aged for 20 months in both American and French oak. Nearly a decade after harvest, it is still drinking beautifully. It offers complex flavors of dark cherries, raspberries, chocolate, and vanilla on the palate, which leads into smooth tannins and earthy, spicy hints on the long, balanced finish. This vintage received a Silver Medal in the Virginia Governor's Cup 2018.
