Dos Lusiadas 'Eleivera' Douro Tinto
Any time we see the name Michel Chapoutier on a wine label, we know we’re in for a real treat. After all, this French native is one of the most awarded winemakers in history. From Wine Advocate alone his wines have earned more than forty 100-Point scores, an unthinkable feat that nobody else has been able to match. And just recently his family business, M. Chapoutier, was voted one of the Top 5 Most Admired Wine Brands in the world.
The only problem? His heritage selections sell for hundreds of dollars a bottle – which means we’d all be lucky to taste them once or twice in a lifetime. So where can you get one of his outrageously delicious wines at an everyday price? Easy – Portugal.
Dos Lusiados is a special project that Chapoutier produces from Touriga Nacional, a hearty indigenous variety that is planted practically nowhere else on earth. When grown and vinified correctly, this unique grape produces bold, richly concentrated wines reminiscent of a great Bordeaux or Premium Napa Cab.
And that's exactly what you'll get from Eleivera. This incredible example of Portugal's heritage grape offers beautifully complex flavors of dark fruits, purple flowers, wild blackberry, and crushed plum. This tightly knit core of flavor is complemented by accents of dark chocolate, leather, and exotic spice, with powerful yet silky tannins leading into a long, oak-kissed finish.
