Domaine du Mas Blanc Banyuls Hors d'Age Vieilli en Sostrera

Banyuls is an extremely rare dessert wine from southern France, unusually (usually) produced from red grapes. The Perpignan area along the Spanish border is so hot that Grenache ripens a little *too* much, and the result is something sweet, chocolatey, and extremely complex. The Sostrera is a staff-favorite not just because of its rarity but because of its thoughtful, intriguing compliments of milk chocolate, baked fruit, prune, and strawberry flavors achieved through the solera-system (in this case, Sostrera) that also makes P.X. Sherry so yummy. Beautifully balanced, it will make you rethink dessert wine.
