Alta Vista 'Atemporal' Red Blend
This 94 Point gem comes from the leading producers of premium single vineyard selections in all of Argentina. Alta Vista was founded in 1997 by the d’Aulan family, former owners of the renowned Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house. Seeing the potential in Argentina, they launched the Alta Vista label to focus on producing high-altitude, site-specific, terroir-driven wines.
Owner Patrick d’Aulan’s knowledge and passion provided the framework for their ‘French-Argentine fusion’ of winemaking, combining 250+ years of French tradition with a unique terroir management system designed to get the best out of Argentina’s terroir.
Their approach proved to be revolutionary: they crafted the very first single vineyard wines in Argentina, setting the stage to skyrocket the country’s wines to international prominence. These unique selections – which are grown and harvested from one specific site chosen for its superior soils, topographical features, sunlight, and temperature – showcase a strong sense of place, allowing us to recognize the true character of each vineyard. The resulting wines are some of the most beautiful expressions of the high-altitude Lujan de Cuyo subregion that we’ve tasted!
The 2017 ‘Atemporal’ (which aptly translates to ‘Timeless’) is a Bordeaux-inspired blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. It’s balanced yet concentrated, with aromas of blueberries and black fruit followed by plush layers of dark fruits, dried herbs, and warm spices. Twelve months in French oak and additional bottle aging provide seamless front-to-back integration of all the components: tannins, acidity, and body, for a pure and refined wine that’s undoubtedly the crème-de-la-crème of viticulture.
