Sebastien Treuillet Pouilly-Fume
Wine Club Selection - May 2022
If Pouilly-Fume isn’t in your regular white wine rotation, there’s a simple reason why: the prices. Although this prestigious appellation in France’s Loire Valley produces some of the best Sauvignon Blancs in the world, most Pouilly-Fumes cost $40 or more. It is incredibly rare to find an affordable but still delicious Pouilly-Fume… but we managed to unearth just that!
Located in the Loire Valley on the right bank of the river, the region of Pouilly-Fume grows exclusively Sauvignon Blanc. Rivaled in regard only by Sancerre, located just on the other side of the river, Pouilly-Fume is one of the world’s most renowned growing regions for Sauvignon Blanc.
Sebastien Treuillet Pouilly-Fume is a stellar example of the aromatic style. The property’s thirty-year-old vines produce grapes with intensely concentrated flavors. Vibrant aromas of lime, green apple, and elderflower lead into hints of flint and smokiness. On the palate this minerality is at the forefront, with accompanying flavors of lemongrass, gooseberry, and a hint of melon. It has a juicy acidity, with depth and elegance leading into a clean and enjoyable finish. Aging in stainless steel barrels emphasizes the mineral notes and fragrant characteristics of the wine.
