Yalumba ‘Y Series’ Cabernet Sauvignon
Tastes Like: Red Fruits, Cassis, Eucalyptus, Pepper
#7 on Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Best Buys of 2020, along with a tidy little 92 Point score.
“Brightness and approachability” that do not disappoint.
One of the most successful wine dynasties in the world.
And all for just $10 a bottle?!
We’d say that the 2018 Yalumba ‘Y Series’ Cabernet Sauvignon is worth screaming about!
Established in 1849, Yalumba is one of Australia’s most historic family-owned wine companies. It’s no surprise that after 170 years in the business, they have unfettered access to some of the oldest (and best) vineyards in the esteemed Barossa and Eden Valleys. And unlike many other ancient wineries, the Hill-Smith family remains both fiercely independent and progressive, focusing their efforts on sustainable practices with the belief that healthier and more diverse vineyards lead to distinguished, one-of-a-kind selections.
So it was no surprise that even their least-expensive Cabernet topped charts as one of the Top 100 of 2020! This alluring bottle offers layered aromas of red fruits and cassis that lead into spicy flavors of pepper, eucalyptus, and dusty earth, with crunchy tannins and sleek acidity leading into a long, balanced finish.
“Yalumba’s everyday reds tend to have a brightness and approachability about them, and this latest Cab doesn’t disappoint. The nose is a lovely combo of currant and red berry backed by graphite, eucalyptus, and large helpings of spice. It’s bone-dry and cinched by raspy tannins, the fruit taking a back seat to lovely layers of texture and tannin. An excellent intro to South Aussie Cabernet.” – 92 Points and #7 Top Best Buy of 2020, Wine Enthusiast
