Taplin Cellars ‘Terra 9’ Cabernet Sauvignon
St. Helena, Napa Valley
Tastes Like: Black Berries, Mocha, Oak, Earth
First founded in 1871, Taplin Cellars has long been an integral part of Napa’s St. Helena subregion. The estate is located in the foothills of the Mayacamas on the western bench of St. Helena, where moderate temperatures and gravelly soils create the ideal environment for Cabernet Sauvignon. Although most of the grapes they grow are sold to other premium estates (including Orin Swift and Caymus), the Terra 9 Cab that they produce themselves is one of Napa’s best values for the quality.
The palate of this wine starts off with complex flavors of brambly berries, Bing cherry, pomegranate, and black tea. These are complemented with notes of milk chocolate, allspice, mocha, and oak. Fine-grained tannins create a plush mouthfeel, with a silky finish that lingers long after the wine is gone.
