Petra ‘Zingari’ Toscana
Made From: Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot
Tastes Like: Blackberries, Dark Plum, Dried Herbs, Earth
Founded in 1997 by Vittorio Moretti and his daughter Francesca, Petra is one of the most innovative and progressive wineries in Tuscany. The estate sits on some of the most prized land in the Maremma subregion, which has become known for producing outstanding Super Tuscan blends. And while they are primarily known for their ultra-premium, highly rated bottles, Petra also crafts selections for everyday drinking that have captured the hearts and palates of wine enthusiasts. Their Zingari label began as an experiment aimed to test how well Syrah, Merlot, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot from their younger estate vineyards could perform. Needless to say, that ‘experiment’ turned into a phenomenon!
“A well of dark cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit makes this red sumptuous and inviting. Fresh earth, thyme and rosemary accents add depth. A mineral element emerges on the long finish. Shows fine balance overall. Merlot, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Syrah. Drink now through 2032. 7,000 cases made, 1,500 cases imported.” – 93 Points & #29 Top 100 of 2019, Wine Spectator
A delicious red that shows red plums, brambleberries, undergrowth, cedar and freshly cut herbs. Medium to full body, delightful, juicy tannins and a tangy, medium-long finish. A blend with equal measures of Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Drink now or hold.” – 93 Points, James Suckling
