Michael Shaps is one of Virginia’s most famous winemakers. He studied winemaking in Burgundy before becoming the winemaker at Jefferson Vineyards and then King Family, while also starting his own line. He now maintains Michael Shaps Wineworks in Charlottesville, VA, Shenandoah Vineyards in Edinburg, VA, and Maison Shaps in Meursault, Burgundy. This Viognier is an especially floral style with aromas of jasmine, honeysuckle, and lemon that lead into flavors of apricot, pear, and anise. Crisp and mineral, yet rich from skin contact, it is gorgeously balanced. Silver Medal, Virginia Governor’s Cup 2020
