2016 J. Davies Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Tastes Like: Dark Cherry, Spiced Blackberries, Dark Chocolate, Oak
Produced by the Davies family, owners of the legendary Schramsberg estate. Jacob Schram planted the very first hillside vineyard in all of Napa back in 1862, and the same historic site is used today to craft this formidable Cab. Winemaker Hugh Davies is a master of extracting the very best from his vines, creating wines of incredible depth and character.
The Diamond Mountain District is arguably Napa’s most premium subregion. With its high elevations, volcanic soils, and intense sunlight exposure, this area is known for producing extraordinarily complex, concentrated, and sophisticated wines. They’re not cheap, though – only a small handful are available for under $100, and many run upwards of $300.
“This wine has a supple succulence of black fruit on the midpalate that’s accented by earthy, savory spice. Dark cherry and plum take on bolder, concentrated richness as the wine opens, with expansive, grippy tannins lending support. Enjoy 2026-2031.” – 94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
“Very vibrant, keenly articulated and concentrated cabernet that offers powerful black cherries and blackberries with dark chocolate and a deep, intense finish. This is full of promise. Try from 2020.” – 94 Points, James Suckling
