2015 Hamacher ‘H Series’ Pinot Noir
Willamette Valley, Oregon
Tastes Like: Cherry Cola, Plum, Clove, Cinnamon
Established in 1995 by Eric Hamacher, Hamacher Estate has become one of the most respected and sought-after wine producers in the Willamette Valley. Eric left his career as a doctor to follow his winemaking dreams, gaining experience in California at prestigious wineries like Mondavi, Chalone, and Etude. But his passion for Pinot was too strong to ignore, and Eric ultimately moved north to the ‘Promised Land’ of Pinot Noir: Oregon’s esteemed Willamette Valley.
Two and a half decades later, Hamacher still produces less than 2,000 cases a year – making this ‘Oregon’s slowest-growing winery’ – but what they lack in quantity they more than make up for in quality. They have an impeccable track record for Burgundy-esque selections that speak to your soul and your palate.
It’s no wonder, then, that even their least expensive wine – the 2015 H Series Pinot Noir – shows all the refinement and precision of flavors of a $50 bottle! This wine is profound and complex, with aromas of cherry cola and smoke followed by flavors of ripe plum, clove, cinnamon, and spice that linger on the palate for an expressive finish. There were only 814 cases produced of this stellar vintage.
