Beckon Bien Nacido Pinot Noir
Santa Maria Valley, California
Tastes Like: Cocoa, Cherry, Pomegranate, Rose Petal
A highly respected winemaker who cut his teeth at the best estates in California, Burgundy, the Rhone, Bordeaux, and Australia, Robert Blue has developed a sense of style that makes each one of his selections absolutely spectacular. Today he is known as a pioneer in the organic wine arena, crafting labels that are a direct reflection of classic European finesse tied together with the unique character of California terroir – all while keeping a profound respect for sustainable cultivation.
And with his deep roots in Central Coast wine making, you can be sure that his 2016 Beckon Bien Nacido Pinot Noir showcases all of this legendary vineyard’s “natural balance in the bottle.” It’s a perfect snapshot of Bien Nacido, offering a delightful nose of bright cherry, rose petals, sagebrush, and baking spice laced with exceptional flavors of pomegranate, blood orange and peppercorn. Eleven months in 100% French oak teases out cocoa and brown spice nuances, with lively acidity and a supple texture leading into a mouth-wateringly persistent finish.
“This is Fetzer’s project in the Central Coast, and the second vintage in a row in which Robert Blue turned out an exceptional pinot from Bien Nacido. It’s an immediate hit of bright red fruit and stemmy peppercorn spice, then it lasts with quiet persistence, lively and substantial in its blood-orange acidity and roseate tannins. Those tannins have a sandy feel, coastal and fresh.”

“Dried red cherry, wild thyme, sagebrush and an underlying hint of game show on the nose of this bottling from a vineyard first planted more than four decades ago. The palate is herbaceous at first before delivering flavors of roast pork in a mulberry-thyme sauce.”
